Robert C. “Bob” Berry Sr. of Shapleigh Maine passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010 after a brief illness at home.

He was born on October 22, 1942 in Stoneham, MA, the son of Elmer L. Berry and Margaret May Berry of Shapleigh, ME and Wakefield MA, both of whom predeceased him..

Bob grew up in Wakefield MA and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1960. He was a standout athlete while at Wakefield HS and went on to play in the Cape Cod Baseball League and then the Cleveland Indians Farm League system. He was inducted into the Wakefield HS Athletic Hall of Fame as an Assistant for the 1973 Boy’s Varsity Basketball State Championship Team.

He moved to Shapleigh with his family in 1976 where he pursued his true love of training, breeding and racing standard breed horses for more than 30 years. He was employed by the Bowl-A-Rama Bowling Lanes in Sanford for many years and also worked for Courtney Cleaners in York, ME.

Bob leaves his long-time partner of 23 years, Suzanne Perry and their son Casey Berry of Shapleigh, ME, his sons Robert Berry Jr. and fiancé Colleen Lemont of Shapleigh, Dan and Patricia Berry of Mattapoisett, MA, Glenn and Jennifer Berry of Sandy, Utah, and six grandchildren.

A public service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 600 Shapleigh Corner Road, Shapleigh ME on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 5:00 PM. Following Service a potluck reception will take place.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.
