Raymond Fawcett

January 13, 2010

Raymond T. Fawcett, 79, well known carpenter and painter, died with his family by his side, at his home at Mousam Lake in Acton, on January 13, 2010.

He was born in Sanford on March 6, 1930 the son of John and Lilla (Babcock) Fawcett and grew up in Sanford, graduating from Sanford High School, with the Class of 1949.
Raymond married his sweetheart and soul mate Rose Marie Roberge on November 23, 1950 and they began a life together that would include raising three children.

Raymond’s first job was like so many in our area, working at the Sanford Mills. Later he joined and became owner of the well respected Fawcett Painting and Carpentry business that ran for 3 generations. Raymond did not take his responsibilities lightly, when you hired him for a job, you received a quality job and it was done right. Raymond was an industrious man who was generous with his time. He was skilled in many trades and could conquer any challenge that came up. With his keen sense of style and balance, he built stone walls and designed landscaping. With his carpentry skills, he built his own homes as well as helping his children with their home projects. During the winter months, he plowed snow for close to 50 years. Many of his customers were friends, but as the years went by, they became more like family.

Raymond was a volunteer fire fighter for the Sanford Fire Department for several years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Together, he and Rose would go camping at Walnut Grove Campground in Alfred and Apple Valley in Acton. Raymond liked to be outdoors, whether hiking in the woods, spending time with his grandchildren, or just enjoying the beauty of living at Mousam Lake.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose Fawcett of Acton; two daughters, Carol A. Goodwin and husband Gary of Sanford; Brenda A. Wood and husband Steven of Bowie, MD; one son, David R. Fawcett of Sanford; his pride and joy, his three grandchildren, Ronald Goodwin, Bradley and Ethan Fawcett; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Morin.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service on Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak Street in Alfred.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route One, Suite 1, Scarborough, ME 04074
