Horace W. (Bill) Perry

December 25, 2009

Horace W. “Bill” Perry, 93, of Shapleigh died on Friday, December 25, 2009 in Waterboro.

Bill was born in South Portland on October 21, 1916 to James and Nettie Watts Perry. He attended local schools and South Portland High School. In 1949 he married Edna Schinski and they spent the next 54 years together.

In 1975 Bill retired from the Colgate Palmolive Company Engineering Department after 28 years of service. He and his family had summered in Shapleigh for many years and relocated there permanently after his retirement. He was an active member in the Greene Street Boat Club for many years where he had served as Commodore. He was a registered NASCAR Driver in the 1950’s and played on the Colgate Softball team. Bill was a first class mechanic and aided more motorists than one could count. With his old Yankee ingenuity there was virtually nothing that he couldn’t accomplish. The legacy he left behind will affect all who knew him in a positive way for many years to come.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Edna Perry and by two sons, William James Perry and Steven Joseph Perry.

Surviving are his son, Horace Perry of Portland and several close friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 5th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Highland Grove Cemetery in North Shapleigh.
